Description
Following the success of her first restaurant, Shrimoyee Chakraborty has opened a second Calcutta Street in Brixton. The Indian restaurant is inspired by the cooking of Bengali cooking in the Indian city of Kolkata.
Starting life as a food blogger and pop-up chef, Shrim has gone on to open a Fitzrovia spot with dishes inspired by her upbringing, while using British produce and Indian spices. The Brixton outpost differs from the restaurant with a nod to its multicultural and diverse location; there are neon signs, hand-painted murals and art work and film posters by important Bengali figures.
The restaurant serves the usual mix of street food style plates, along with a few new dishes for the latest opening; expect a slow-cooked dish of biryani and chicken chaap. Cocktails come in the form of 'shorbots' - a drink style from the Northern Indian city made using flower petals and fruit.
