What they say:
The Stafford London Hotel is undergoing extensive redesign to transform its restaurant into The Game Bird, a venue reveling in British food. Helmed by acclaimed chef James Durrant, the menu focuses on the eponymous game, with dishes like game pie and roast grouse. The Game Bird hopes to bring classic British dishes delivered with a contemporary twist, much like the converted, historical Victorian building which houses it. All the top-quality ingredients are sourced from across Britain.
What we say:
Home-grown British food is definitely in vogue right now, but The Game Bird won't be cooking your grandma's roast dinner. Game dishes, such as game pie with port and short crust pastry, manage to evoke a warming sense of homeliness as well as make the mouth water with the very name. But while the venue is committed to serving classic dishes with a modern twist, we still get quaint quirks, such as their special oyster menu, sourced from Jersey to West Mersea, served on a specialised table side trolly. Being locked in this restaurant at the end of a cold winter's day sounds like an absolute dream.
