Description
Originating in Bahrain, Villa Mamas has grown into one of the Middle East's most popular chains. Now the homely restaurant, which is the work of chef Roaya Saleh, has found its first London home in Chelsea.
Occupying a 50-cover space on Elystan Street, the new restaurant serves traditional Bahraini dishes, including breakfasts of homemade jams, slow-cooked fava beans and baked eggs. Lunch is a selection of mezzeh sharing plates such as lamb and feta kofta and turbot cooked in stock with pilaf and onions.
The interiors pay homage to the restaurant's origins with lots of Bahraini touches, from artwork and textiles from the Middle Eastern country through to a Parisian counter top. There is also street side seating and a little back garden where herbs for the kitchen are grown. Drinks are just as interesting with a small and sweet wine and cocktail list.
