What they say:

Located in the heart of London's theatreland, Little Kolkata offers authentic halal Bengali cuisine in laid-back settings. Following on from a series of sell-out supper clubs, this is the first permanent spot for founders Prabir Chattopadhyay and Biswajit Deb Das. The Shelton Street spot pays a loving homage to the Bengal region, with a relaxed interior, sharing plates and a communal atmosphere honouring both the traditional and more modern city culture. The menu consists of tapas-style small plates, with dishes such as cashew phulkopi, manga aam fish and salad, and lamb biryani taking centre stage.

What we say:

Fusing Bangladeshi and Indian cuisine in the heart of London, you can expect authentic sharing dishes, developed using traditional Calcuttan ingredients and spices. Meat eaters can opt for the succulent chicken liver, sautéed with lashings of spice and fresh chilli, while pescetarian's may choose the maacher cutlet; cod fish served with Kashundi - a typical Calcuttan mustard sauce. Traditional concepts are kept throughout the dessert menu, which is peppered with yoghurt-based dishes, sweet treats and baked goods with an edge. Inspired by famed Swiss patisserie Flury's - located in Calcutta - brownies are injected with cardamom coffee then served with rose ice-cream. Cocktails also receive an East Indian twist; from the aromatic Indian Summer Garden, made with jasmine infused vodka and the floral Saffron Spritz.
