Join us for a spectacular event celebrating the latest release of modern Italian Cru IPSUS in the company of Giovanni Mazzei.
Only in its fifth vintage, this single vineyard has already swooped fantastic accolades. It is a pioneer of Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, a game changer aiming to be the purest expression of Sangiovese ever made. Only 4,500 bottles are produced on average each year Sassicaia makes 180,000 bottles, making it a collector dream. With each vintage surpassing the previous one, it is fair to say this masterpiece is on its path to become a legend.
IPSUS is sourced from Il Caggio, a 6.5ha estate located in the hamlet of Castellina in Chianti. The vines benefit from a combination of altitude 350m, southeast-west exposure, and alberese and clay soils which are ideal to grow Sangiovese. Once harvested, the grapes are separated into 18 micro vinifications with both fermentation and maturation tailored to each vintage. However, Giovanni has a clear vision of what the wine should express: “It should be electric”.
To celebrate the release of the fifth edition, which has received its highest score to date 99 points from James Suckling, Giovanni will guide us through IPSUS’ four latest vintages. To mark the occasion, our Petersham Head Chef Csaba will curate a fantastic five-course menu to pair with the wines.
