Description
Mangal II is a Turkish feasting haven offering a refined dining experience on Stoke Newington Road. It began back when a young Ali Dirik moved to London in 1987, where within four years of his departure from Istanbul, he opened up his first restaurant Mangal Ocakbaşı in Dalston. A few years later, he moved on from his initial restaurant to open Mangal II, which now stands as a local favourite today.
Run by his sons Ferhat and Sertaç Dirik, the North East London haunt serves traditional cuisine reminiscent of the eatery's roots, as well as modern dishes developed to satisfy the city's ever-evolving palette. Inside is a bright, airy space complete with authentic art framed on white walls and a wash of dark blue paint running around the dado.
The menu features plates made using fresh, seasonal ingredients from UK-based suppliers. Among the moreish food offerings is börek with beyaz peynir, fermented parsley and courgette (£12), plus lamb loin served with rump beyti and sivri biber (£26). For dessert, there are sweet and sticky options such as a date and walnut baklava with kaymak and mulberry syrup (£8.50).
