What they say:
Moving effortlessly in the vacuum on Mare Street, left by the London Fields Pub when it closed down, Martello Hall is a new restaurant-cum-distiller, serving flavoursome Italian dishes and delicately produced cocktails. Open early throughout the week, guests can start their day with Italian eggs, served with wood roast potatoes, and toast topped with roast tomatoes, thyme and aioli, before returning later in the day and tucking into some toppings-heavy stone-baked pizzas. And of course, we can't forget the drinks. Gin is king here, with the mixologists offering their own range of juniper berry creations.
What we say:
Serving seemingly great Italian cuisine and home-made gin cocktails, Martello Hall was always going to get two thumbs up from us. The spread and reach of the menu is truly staggering, and the creativity of the cocktail menu will always please Hackney's adventurous crowds. We're particularly excited about the torta fritta fried dumplings, stuffed with fresh ingredients and served with ham and cheese, and the Nicola cocktail, specially created by gin-oracle John Chapple using the venue's own Martello Gin.
