It was the announcement that broke brunch-loving hearts across South London, but the news that Brockwell Park's Lido Cafe will be closing its doors after ten years comes with a very shiny silver lining.
The poolside spot's sister restaurant, 400 Rabbits, will be moving in in their wake to bring their tried and tested brand of fresh sourdough pizzas, local craft brews and London's best value negroni to Herne Hill. Having expanded significantly since the original Crystal Palace locale, this latest opening will be the fourth under the 400 Rabbits moniker, but the Brockwell site comes with one special new addition: brunch.
Yes, for the first time ever, 400 Rabbits will be serving up a slick menu of mid-morning eats, so all you weekend warriors can breathe a little easier again. Alongside their set offering of slices, they'll be cooking up a menu of signature dishes come the weekend, including green shakshuka with homemade sourdough, and smoked salmon with a fried egg, goat's curd and capers.
They'll also be bringing their teal interiors to the art deco building, so get ready to sink some of their San Marzano bloody marys in style this summer.
