Made of Dough came up trumps in that all important dough department.
From their two-year pop-up residency at Pop Brixton and signature 60 hour fermented pizza dough to a 'Jackpot Motherfucking Peanut Butter Shake', there's plenty of fun, Made of Dough facts to share amongst friends. Another fact? They've just got a new restaurant. And this time, it's for reals. Newly based in Peckham on the ever-suburban Bellenden Road, Made of Dough haven't left Brixton behind, they've simply shuffled some of the business into a new, and pretty cool space just down the road-ish.
After a bit of a squeeze at the door (an offer of 50% off during their opening weekend was always going to present them with quite the pizza storm), we settled down into the neat and petite space. I really rate what the guys have done here, from the copper flecks, open plan kitchen and the cutesy matchstick packs to the navy tones and the simple, un-flustered design edge. In my opinion? Everything you need from a pizza restaurant, with the added bonus of an intimate garden to boot.
Made of Dough's great reputation was clearly keeping the restaurant full, so we settled in for a couple of quick pizzas and cocktails. While I opted for their artichoke heart pizza with a tomato base and pressed garlic oil (chuffed to be able to opt-out of the white base) alongside an Amalfi Lemon Bellini (£7), my boyfriend chowed down on their truffle offering with portobello mushroom, fior di latte, white alba truffle oil, thyme & burrata (£11). My pizza really zinged with the subtle garlic bite and the lightly tart chew of the artichoke was top notch, while the white base of the truffle pizza was supported by the rich texture of the mushrooms and the fior di latte. Unfortunely, the cocktails lacked any depth; my bellini was a little too bitter, and my boyfriends drink was a non-descript offering that tasted like flat water and stale vodka. While we added new drinks into the mix to soften the blow, I really don't want to take away from the awesome attitude of the team and their genuinely buffed pizzas that had no complaints from the room, and certainly no complaints from us.
