What they say:
Brian Hannon and Ben Chapman from Smoking Goat Soho are joining forces with chef Ali Borer to open a second Smoking Goat, this time focusing on the ever-changing Shoreditch area. Drawing inspiration from the open-air, casual dining canteens found all over Thailand, this new restaurant-bar will open in the former home of The White Horse, a famous strip pub that had become a stalwart venue in the East End before closing in early 2017. The Smoking Goat will focus on fresh ingredients and authentic recipes, serving pan-Asian barbecue dishes that stretch back through the decades.
What we say:
Though the closing of The White Horse in Shoreditch was a landmark moment for East London's nightlife scene, that feeling of sadness was soon replaced with a sense of excitement after we heard about The Smoking Goat's plans of expansion. Details are a bit thin at present, but we do know that fresh, high-quality ingredients are at the forefront of everything here. The menu will be short, constantly evolving and will feature flavoursome fish and meat dishes that all pack plenty of punch. But it seems creating a laid-back atmosphere is the most important thing for the owners. Targeting late-night revellers, they'll be over the moon if guests head down for dinner and end up spending the whole night in their venue. Say S̄wạs̄dī to this new pan-Asian joint, we reckon it's here to stay.
