Humble Chicken

Humble Chicken is a Michelin star spot in Soho that comes from the mind of chef Angelo Sato, who moved to London at age 17 and worked his way up to opening his first eatery after periods under Clare Smyth at Restaurant Gordon Ramsey and time at Restaurant Story. He draws upon his Japanese heritage and European roots to create a decadent tasting menu and kitchen-theatre-like experience in an intimate, 18-seater setting. 

A 16-course tasting menu (£165) is on the cards here, or a 12-course omakase (£115) for Saturday lunch, with each course explained to you by either Sato or one of his team and the option for an alcohol pairing (from around £95). 

You can expect to devour the likes of mussel, kosho ponzu and avocado, or beef tartare with spicy miso and bone marrow to begin, then glossy shokupan served with Australian winter truffle, chicken liver parfait and parsley. The sukiyaki (short rib and cévennes onion topped with a crispy egg) is not to be missed either, nor is the cheesecake that follows for dessert. 

Wash everything down with sake from a selection featuring Tokubetsu Junmai 'Kamokinshu 13' from Hiroshima or Pechakn's finest Junmai Daiginjo 'Tori' from Kanpai Brewery, or tempt yourself with a Jasmine Martini or Wild Cherry and Oolong.
