If you're into Thai food, chances are you've heard of Greyhound Café; the swish South East Asian spot that opened earlier this year. Hugely popular in Bangkok, the Fitzrovia outpost marks the brand's first venture in Europe and this summer sees the launch of a new brunch menu. We visited on a warm weekend, where the cosy monochrome terrace was adorned with hanging lights and filled with diners. Usually I eat outside when the weather is good, but I'd seen gorgeous photos of the interior and just had to see for myself. The black and white theme continues, with an open plan kitchen and quirky origami-style fish hanging from the ceiling. It's contemporary and cool.
Fusing authentic Thai ingredients and modern flavours of Bangkok with recipes from far and wide, the brunch menu carries the eclectic fusion theme. We went for the Spicy Kai Krata (£8); a Thai take on the full English, replacing the usual contents with a chicken chilli bomb, sweet Chinese sausage, beans, tomatoes and a Moo Yor lollipop. The saucy Khao Tom Goong (£9) is a traditional congee cooked with saucy shrimp, juicy prawns and a slightly spicy fish sauce, while weekend specials also stand out. We chose the staple Grilled Pork Khao Jee (£8), which features skewers of marinated pork and deep fried sticky rice balls alongside flavourful dipping sauces.
Drinks are just as innovative; we went for the signature iced tea (£4) and the eye-catching Sawasdee cup (£4.50) which combines pineapple juice and mint with ginger ale, served with an espresso shot on the side, which you can pour in to taste. If you're really looking to shake up your usual weekend routine, then this Bangkok brunch is just the thing. With tongue-in-cheek twists on classics and the flavours to back it up, it's one worth tasting.
Bangkok brunch is now available from 10am to 2pm at Greyhound Café, 37 Berners St, W1T 3LZ.
