Celebrated annually in December, this historic custom is an atmospheric event involving Christmassy treats and a singing line-up of a candle-carrying choir dressed in beautiful white gowns, with Lucia herself carrying a crown of light on her head… For many of us, the tradition, the sense of community and the festival atmosphere make Lucia an important day in the Swedish Calendar.

The LondonSwedes Choir, led by Choir Director Michaela Lundin, is back with two unforgettable performances on Saturday, 14th December. This year, we’re thrilled to be joined by one of Sweden's most iconic voices and musical stars, Peter Jöback. We are happy to announce that Peter will perform at both events.

SPECIAL GUEST 2024 - Peter Jöback

Peter Jöback: A Scandinavian Star Shining Worldwide

Peter Jöback is one of Scandinavia’s brightest stars, known for his incredible talent as both an actor and singer. With multiplatinum records and over a million tickets sold across his tours, Peter has become a household name. His breakthrough came in Björn and Benny’s ABBA musical Kristina, and since then, he's seamlessly crossed genres between pop and musical theatre.

Peter's career highlights include standout performances in The Phantom of the Opera in London’s West End and New York's Broadway, where he even performed at the Tony Awards. He’s also played iconic roles like Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, and Sweeney Todd.

Peter’s album I Love Musicals sold out arenas in Scandinavia and Tokyo, and his Christmas album remains a Swedish classic. His latest work, Atlas, produced by Ed Harcourt, showcases his stunning vocals and deep storytelling.

Beyond his artistic achievements, Peter is a humanitarian, serving as an ambassador for Water Aid and the World Childhood Foundation. In 2021, King Carl XVI Gustaf awarded him the prestigious Litteris et Artibus medal for his artistic contributions.

Each year, LondonSwedes invites a special guest to join our Lucia concert, and we’ve been fortunate to host some of Sweden's most celebrated musical talents. From Swedish music royalty like Molly Sandén in 2023, Cornelia Jakobs in 2022, Måns Zelmerlöw in 2021, Molly Hammar in 2019, to Miriam Bryant in 2017, our stage has seen remarkable performances. This year, we are beyond excited to announce that Peter Jöback will be headlining our Lucia event with a special performance!

LondonSwedes is a community organization that aims to bring together Swedes and friends of Sweden, living in London. Apart from our Lucia event, we host social and fun Midsummer events and the popular Crayfish Festivals.
Videos from our previous events can be found on LondonSwedes YouTube Channel.

Lucia is one of LondonSwedes' most spectacular events, and we've had the pleasure to host The LondonSwedes Choir in venues such as the 450-year-old Speech Room in Harrow School, Asylum Chapel, Lyric Theatre and The Royal College of Music, and with some of Sweden's best singers and performers joining our beautiful choir.

The events are open to all, regardless of nationality, they offer a unique opportunity for both Swedes and non-Swedes to come together and celebrate the holiday season in a truly Swedish way. It is a chance to experience the warmth and charm of Swedish tradition, as well as to connect with the Swedish community in London.
