Description
The Book of Mormon London
A true work of comic genius, The Book of Mormon continues to delight and shock audiences at London's Prince of Wales Theatre. As the winner of nine 2011 Tony Awards, it has garnered sensational reviews and consistently sold-out shows, making The Book of Mormon tickets some of the most sought-after in the West End. Be sure to get your tickets while they last!
The musical is a box office powerhouse, written by the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, alongside Robert Lopez, co-creator of Avenue Q and composer for Disney’s 2013 film Frozen. Parker and Stone drew inspiration from their own South Park episode “All About Mormons,” which first aired on Comedy Central in 2003. The duo even visited Salt Lake City, Utah, to conduct research for the show.
About The Show
The Book of Mormon follows the story of two young Mormon missionaries, Elder Price and Elder Cunningham, as they attempt to spread the word of the Latter Day Saints in a small Ugandan town. The missionaries quickly realize the daunting nature of their task when they discover the villagers are more concerned with the AIDS epidemic, oppression, and starvation.
Fans of South Park or the work of Parker and Stone will know that The Book of Mormon can be rather bawdy and crass at times! Despite Parker and Stone’s provocative subject matter, the musical never received backlash from the Church of Latter-Day Saints. In fact, the Mormon Church stated that the musical might be “entertaining for a day,” while also noting that “the book is always better” when it comes to theatrical adaptations.
