Health and Wellbeing Event Part of the Windrush Day Celebration

FREE health and wellbeing event aimed at improving outcomes in black health at Novotel Hammersmith, 1 Shortlands, London W6 8DR on Saturday 22 June from 12 noon – 5 pm

NHS NW London, in partnership with Hammersmith and Fulham Council and local community groups, is pleased to invite NW London residents, partners and community groups to a free Health and Wellbeing Windrush Day Celebration Event.

As part of the celebrations, we are working to improve health outcomes for all members of the Black community in North West London.  All activities have been designed by health and community partners to offer something fun for all ages.

This event aims to unite the community in a fun and friendly atmosphere while taking practical steps towards building trust and improving health outcomes.

What to expect on the day:

• Free Lunch - First come first served basis;
• Free fun activities for all ages;
• Over 30+ health and wellbeing stalls including Taekwondo workshops, antenatal, breastfeeding and postnatal education and support sessions and face painting for adults and kids!;
• Free on-site health checks, screenings and education and support;
• Live DJ and Music Plus Live Performances;
• Health Care professionals from our GP surgeries, community and maternity services and our local hospitals;

Tackling health inequality: call to action and empowerment:

• Black British people with cancer are more likely to have a “bad outcome”;
• Getting a diagnosis of Mental Health issues increases with deprivation and being black;
• 1 in 4 Black Men are likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer; this is double the national rate and black men are twice as likely to die as a result;
• Gender and ethnicity are strong predictors of hypertension, with the Black population significantly more likely to be affected.
