Description
Now in their fifth year, Chef Alex and his veteran supper club team at Basement Galley are joining forces with the pioneers of jazz supper clubs, The Elmore Jam to bring you a little something different for Mother's Day.
Together they'll be treating not just mum's and family to an early spring feast complete with Live jazz
Basement Galley: Originally named The Basement Galley Supper Club and hosted in Chef Alex's basement flat in Brixton, the aim was to bring friends and strangers alike together over dinners. Five years on, Basement Galley is a company in its own right and hosting supper clubs on a 1969 London Underground carriage in Walthamstow as well as locations across the capital. Chef Alex is a graduate of the Le Cordon Bleu School, Paris, training under some of France’s top chefs. Alex has worked at two Michelin Star Sketch in, London and double AA Rosette wining Rufflets in St Andrews, Scotland. He has been consultant chef for several food start-ups, now heading up Basement Galley's event catering team.
The Elmore Jam: Now situated in Leytonstone, The Elmore Jam started out as a unique supper in the home of Nick Atkins on Elmore Street in Islington. His supper clubs always included live music, mostly a jazz trio making things very lively while a carousel of tremendously diverse and innovative chefs served excellent food. Creating a social stage to meet new people was an important ingredient and very often his open and inviting home full of artwork and music business memorabilia presented a ‘through the keyhole’ experience that would stimulate conversation with gourmet food presenting center stage under some very hot stage lamps. Being the entertainment officer has always come easily to Nick who loves to host.
FAQ:
Are you a restaurant? No. And emphatically so! Despite their restaurant backgrounds Chef Alex and the Basement Galley team are supper clubbers through and through: it's all about sitting at tables with people you may not know or helping out passing the plates down the table.
Can I choose what to eat? No - but that's not a bad thing! Part of the supper club experience is taking the plunge and giving up any menu choice. Chef Alex and his culinary team take great care in putting their menus together to fit the season with some of the UK's finest ingredients. We look forward to getting you trying and liking things you maybe wouldn't eat off the bat!
Do you cater for dietary requirements? Yes. There is a section for that when you buy your ticket. Our chefs can cater for most religious or allergy requirements as long as they know in advance; otherwise they won't be able to cater for you on the night.
Will I be sitting next to people I know? Sort of. Despite silver service and high-end food, it's a supper club, NOT a restaurant. The organisers will try to accommodate people who book together close to each other, but please be prepared for sitting next to the odd stranger as well due to the layout of the venue: it's been proven time and time again that guests who get to know fellow diners in this way get the most out of the evening!
Is there a dress code? No. Please feel comfortable. Some people like to dress up a bit but others choose the t-shirt and jeans options. We just want you to enjoy your evening!
Is this a BYOB event? Yes. We will be offering a welcome drink but otherwise it's up to you to bring your favourite tipple.
What is the refunds & cancellation policy? Due to high demand and limited spaces, tickets are non-refundable. However, if you can't come tickets ARE transferrable. We do not issue refunds after our events. We hope you'll enjoy our food and the supper club in general but if there is anything you're not happy with let us know so we have the chance to see if there is anything we can do for you rather than leaving disappointed!
