Description
For over four years London-based catering company Basement Galley has hosted their flagship dining experience "The Underground Supper Club" in one of London's most unique venues, a decommissioned 1967 London Underground carriage.
As for the food, we're really making use of the better weather and getting our BBQ on. After a delicious starter (changing weekly), we'll be serving up some of the finest cuts of meat from our trusted Smithfield Market supplier can give us and will be complimenting some mouth watering steaks with really creative sides and salads. And even if you're a veggie - this will be the best BBQ you've ever had. Needless to say we'll wrap the whole dinner up with a luscious dessert and you can wash the whole menu down with our carefully selected wines - 'we know they're good because we've tried them all!
As a rule, the 3 course menu comes with a succulent slice of BBQ our pork belly. We brine it for 24 hours, then slow-cook it in Suffolk cloudy cider for 3 hours before pressing it for another 24 hours. When that baby hits the grill to finish give it some smokey glaze, who could possibly resist! If however you'd like to opt for buttermilk cured poussin or a rib eye, sirloin or filet - go for it! We'll ask you for your sauce choice on the night: Cracked pepper corn, Dark Jus, or succulent home-made herb butter.
To book please select the type of ticket you'd like (social table / private booth) and then select the cut of meat/veggie as 'merchandise'. If nothing is selected we'll assume you want pork belly!
FAQ:
Do I have to eat meat? No. Although we pride ourselves on offering probably some of the best steaks in London we pride ourselves in cooking up a storm for vegetarian, vegan or pescatarian guests.
Do I have to choose the cut of meat and how I'd like it cooked? Ideally yes. We're a small operator and it really helps us to avoid wastage if we know what you'd like to eat beforehand. If you don't select anything from the 'merchandise' section, we will assume you're happy to have our delicious BBQ pork belly.
Do you cater for dietary requirements? Yes. There is a section for that when you buy your ticket. Chefs at the Underground Supper Club can cater for most religious or allergy requirements as long as they know in advance; otherwise they won't be able to cater for you on the night.
Is there a dress code? No. Please feel comfortable. Some people like to dress up a bit but others choose the t-shirt and jeans options. We just want you to enjoy your evening!
Is this a BYOB event? No. We have a fully licensed bar on site with some carefully chosen wines to match the BBQ as well as some world class Gin and Vodka from Chase Distillery - along with some great Fevertree mixers and softs!
Does the tube carriage move? Sadly not. Even though the photos might suggest otherwise, the decommissioned 1967 Victoria Line carriage is completely stationary at the Pump House Museum in Walthamstow.
Is the tube carriage heated? Yes. However, during the winter months you may wish to wear something a little warmer should a draft slip through. If you need a little more warmth, then ask us for one of our cosy red blankets....or hit the bar!
Will I be sitting next to people I know? Sort of. Despite silver service and high-end food, it's a supper club, NOT a restaurant. The organisers will try to accommodate people who book together close to each other, but please be prepared for sitting next to the odd stranger as well due to the layout of the carriage: it's been proven time and time again that guests who get to know fellow diners in this way get the most out of the evening! If you would prefer some privacy, we recommend booking one of our tables of 4 or VIP Booths.
What is the cancellation policy? Bookings can be cancelled up to 7 days before the event. A new transfer to a new date can be requested. Refunds can only be given if the cancelled ticket can be resold. No refunds can me made if the ticket is cancelled with less than 7 days to go before the event. No refunds or booking transfer can be made on the day of the original booking. Transfers and refunds are made at the discretion of Basement Galley management.
