Best Mexican Restaurants In Manchester

Mexican food has been around in the UK for decades, first arriving in the 1970s in the form of the US's Tex-Mex fixation, yet today there are more eateries than ever leaning into the authentic plates found in the likes of Oaxaca and beyond. To accompany everyone's favourite shot and glasses of margaritas, you've got to have plates of Baja fish and chicken wings tossed in a sweet and spicy arbol sauce, right? This is why from sea bass ceviche tostadas to shredded beef burritos, we've compiled a guide to help you find the best Mexican restaurant in Manchester, with plenty of drinks to wash it all down too.

Doghouse Manchester

Upgrade to 90 mins bottomless headliner beers for £21.95pp!

Get on down to DogHouse Manchester for a mouthwatering menu of Mexican-inspired munch on their cool rooftop. Downstairs you'll find its bar pouring 30 taps of its signature beer, but the leafy, bunting-adorned, sky-high space is where it's at for grub. We're talking tacos filled with crispy fried chicken, home-fried corn nachos and birria-loaded fries, plus desserts like vanilla sugared churros. What's more, every Tuesday you can secure tacos for less: buy one and get the other for just £1. Choose from birria beef in a fried cheese taco shell, chicken, fish or TiNDLE chicken tacos alongside a refreshing drink.

Peter Street Kitchen

5 Course Christmas Luncheon: £155 and 8 other offers

If you're on the hunt for Mexican restaurants in Manchester, UK, Peter Street Kitchen has to be up there. Combining the flavours of Mexico and Japan for a series of delicious small plates, this stylish space is also renowned for cocktails. Step inside the iconic Free Trade Hall to discover a space kitted out with modern furnishings celebrating naturalism: a tiled bar is the centre-piece, surrounded by marbled tables and pendant lighting. The award-winning eatery's menu is presented as a six-course tasting experience, including plates of grilled lobster gyoza tacos, stone bass with crushed Andean chilli lime sea salt, and habanero matchstick chicken. Fancy finishing with a drink? Head to the Rikyū Bar and try a peach and raspberry martini on for size.

Revolucion De Cuba Manchester

Not quite Mexico, but not far off: Revolucion De Cuba is bringing a taste of Latin America to Deansgate. Sporting hanging plates, distressed, exposed brick walls and quirky tiled flooring, the space is home to live music, late-night cocktails and enviable brunches. It's the food that really captures our hearts though, as the lively restaurant serves delicious burritos filled with slow-cooked shredded beef and chicken fajitas, alongside hearty tapas such as black bean and feta empanadas. And to drink? There's a Cuban Icons menu as well as one centred around margaritas, featuring coconut or melon versions.

Sandinista

The Spanish and Central American theme runs deep in Sandinista. Established in 2002 and from the same team behind Blind Tyger and Smokestack is a cool, intimately lit space fronting retro signage, exposed brick walls and fairy lights. The restaurant boasts a huge selection of cocktails, such as Brown Eyed Girl (an elegant Irish mocha), Elvis Juice (a chocolate orange mai tai) and Rio Spritzle (a peach wine spritz), as well as a variety of tequilas. You'll find plenty of fabulous food deals here too, like a 'nibbles combo' which includes Mexican monster munch, chips and dips for £10, plus chicken quesadillas and taquitos.

Madre

From the same masterminds behind Belzan in Liverpool and London's Breddos comes an authentic, design-led Mexican eatery that's name directly translates as 'mother'. Just shy of Piccadilly station, Madre's interiors are mesmerising as soon as you step foot through its door - pastel pinks pair with lime greens and are met with the warm, orange glow of domed lamps. Its menu is an agave-focussed drinks list that steals the limelight, with tipples like peach margaritas (£12) and the Lopo Chapo (£10), made with slow berry-infused mezcal and apricot. To eat, you can get excited about crispy, tender pork belly bites (£8.50), seabass ceviche tostadas (£13.50) and chorizo tacos (£10.50).

Liquor & Burn

Inspired by the owner's drive from Vegas to Mexico, Manchester's Liquor & Burn is giving you cantina vibes with a local feel. It was founded by the same people behind Almost Famous, Keko Moku and Home Sweet Home and features ribbons of multicoloured bunting across the ceiling, plenty of potted plants and cool, textured walls. As it's big on Tex-Mex flavours that celebrate the classics you might expect from a great roadside restaurant, burritos, fries topped with birria beef and nacho cheese, and tacos (think Baja shrimp for £9) are whipped up to be enjoyed alongside a tipple from the back bar. Look forward to 2-4-1 margaritas every day, and choose from a classic, Tommy's or frozen affair.

Las Iguanas Deansgate

After Mexican restaurants in Manchester city centre? If you like your nachos piled with cheese and sour cream, this is the one for you. Las Iguanas started in Bristol in 1991 and has since expanded with outposts up and down the country, offering a smattering of dishes from Mexico and South America, including DIY tacos. Its Deansgate space fronts the same rich colour palette inspired by the southern hemisphere and plays uplifting Latin beats while diners dig into fare inspired by Buenos Aires and vibrant Mexican street food markets. Mixed fajita stacks are on the menu alongside mushroom enchiladas, chilli corn carne and vegetarian chimichangas.

MNKY HSE

Situated on Deansgate underneath a bright, neon light, MNKY HSE is a fantastic day-to-night restaurant serving some of the finest Latin American fare around. Expect pretty lighting, quirky paintings, an open kitchen and even live DJ sets on weekends as its club is open 'til 4am from Friday to Sunday. The innovative cuisine is thanks to chef Mark Morrans, who oversees a vibrant sharing menu for guests to enjoy. The set menu comes in at £29 per person and includes everything from wild mushroom tacos to chicken robata and roasted cauliflower. They offer brunch here as well, including 90 minutes of bottomless drinks for as little as £40 per person.
