What they say:
Located in a hidden spot on Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter, Behind Closed Doors is a brand new basement cocktail bar. After ringing the buzzer, descend down a Chandelier-lit staircase and find a speakeasy with influences from the '60s through to '80s. Founder Nick Parr has gone all out with the decor as the venue features a shopping trolley DJ deck, retro phones that can used to call the bar, and vintage TVs. The focus is firmly on cocktails along with a small selection of wine and beer, though the venue plans to roll out a late-night dessert menu in the near future.
What we say:
It's secret, it's sexy and it's everything you want from a speakeasy; Behind Closed Doors looks like it's going to be worth the hunt as it opens in the Northern Quarter. Founded by former manager of The Whiskey Jar Nick Parr, the spot is not for the prudish as cocktails include the likes of Furry Cup (vodka, creme de mure, lemon, egg white and peach) along with Wet Dream (tequila, hibiscus, sake, and rose lemonade). Images from vintage glamour magazines decorate walls, there's Persian rugs and telephones have a fun surprise. Open from Thursday - Sunday, the venue looks set to be stealing plenty of our weekends.
