What they say:

The Northern Quarter might have just received its coolest bar yet in Sugar Rays. Channelling the moody cool of New York lounge bars, the interiors are made of dark wood panelling next to dark furnishings and chesterfield sofas lining the walls. Mood lighting hangs over the tables, as well as the bar, which contrasts with the rest of the venue thanks to its sleek crimson tiles. It's taken the place of former Caribbean cafe Club Q, but hopes to join the ranks of quirky bars in Manchester, serving up a mixture of gourmet hot dogs and seasonal cocktails with names like ‘Make Pineapple Great Again’, while playing disco, funk and soul on the speakers.

What we say:

While hearing that a bar serves up ‘gourmet hotdogs in a New York-style bar’ may produce eye-rolls from some people, Sugar Rays exudes effortless cool. The interiors are stylish enough to keep even the most cynical bar-goer happy and the ‘dogs themselves are creatively mouth-watering. Serving up eight varieties, the menu includes options like Nikka Nori Dog, served in a brioche bun glazed with Japanese whisky with sliced nori seaweed, wasabi mayonnaise and Asian slaw. The waffles are similarly decadent, with options slavered in ice cream, sauce and whipped cream. Wash it all down with one of their many beers – including a sharing bottle – and you’re in for a good time.
