Each week we catch up with one of Manchester's favourite bartenders to talk about the city's bars, pubs and clubs. After all, what better way to get an insight into a bar than from the person serving the drinks? This week we ask Craig MacDonald, bar consultant and spirit trail guide at The Liquorists a few questions...
Name: Craig Macdonald
Age: 26
Works at: The Liquorists
You should come for drinks at The Liquorists because… We do rum trails and 'Gincident', which is a gin tasting on a canal boat!
I’ll whip you up… ‘A Cup Of Tea’. Definitely my favourite drink from the recent Kahlua Coffee House. Served in two parts; the first part is peppermint tea with Kahlua and vanilla vodka, and the second is part is milk, vanilla essence and white chocolate liquor. Looks like a cup of tea but tastes like an adult milkshake! Amazing.
Mine’s a… Negroni….Simple but all kinds of perfect!
When I’m off duty you’ll normally find me… at Epernay and Gorilla. I love both of these places; they take time to look after you and do things right.
The best thing about being a bartender is… Being able to make somebody’s night by listening to a customer and delivering what they ask for.
Not many people know this but… I’ve taken a penalty at the old Wembley. After scoring at Notts County’s ground to progress, I got to take a penalty on the pitch at Wembley before the Notts County vs Bradford play-off final.
Come and see me on… I’ll hopefully be on that gin boat!
