Each week we catch up with one of Manchester's favourite bartenders to talk about the city's bars, pubs and clubs. After all, what better way to get an insight into a bar than from the person serving the drinks? This week we ask Kate Matusiak, bartender at Apotheca, a few questions...
Kate is a bartender at Apotheca, one of the most popular Northern Quarter bars
Name: Kate Matusiak
Age: 26
Works at: Apotheca
You should come for drinks at Apotheca because... we serve the best drinks accompanied by the best tunes! We have a brilliant cocktail menu featuring both bespoke and classic cocktails, and a large selection of these are available on our wonderful two for £9 offer. If cocktails aren't your thing then we have a great selection of spirits, beers and ciders.
I'll whip you up a... Strawberry Blonde. It's one of our signature cocktails and a bestseller from our new menu. It's a fruity and refreshing drink with Ketel One vodka, Kwai Feh lychee liqueur, lime, fresh strawberries and pressed apple juice.
Mine's a... Sipsmith gin and tonic. You can't beat a good gin and tonic!
When I'm off duty you'll normally find me... at Pie & Ale, Kosmonaut or Home Sweet Home. Or after work, a cheeky few drinks in Liars Club!
The best thing about being a bartender is... Meeting new people, including the staff I work with. Although the hours are 'anti-social' it is actually a very social job and we can have some fun times on busy Saturday night shifts.
Not many people know this but... I am addicted to Haribo and all other sweets. It's a serious problem.
Come in and see me... most of the time, and wearing leopard print!
