Each week we catch up with one of Manchester's favourite bartenders to talk about the city's bars, pubs and clubs. After all, what better way to get an insight into a bar than from the person serving the drinks? This week we ask Sarah Hanson, bartender at Odd Bar, a few questions...
Name: Sarah Hanson
Age: 30...
Works at: Odd Bar, Thomas Street
You should come for drinks at Odd because… we don’t do cocktails. Yes! No time-wasting thanks. But we DO do a ridiculous selection of spirits including very many gins. More gins than you can shake a stick at. And vodkas. You don’t need a cocktail, I promise you.
I’ll whip you up a… cocktails are rubbish. A fine spirit/mixer will stand alone. For the summer time, we can do you a Zubrowka Bison Grass Vodka with apple juice (classic, it tastes like apple pie), a Mango Absolut with lemonade (or tonic for a slightly less sweet version - my preference), or a rum (any rum, although we do have Wray & Nephew 63% proof rum just FY everybody’s I) and Old Jamaica ginger beer.
Mine’s a… Gin & Slimline, a Zubrowka, apple juice and half a shot of Chambord, or 1.5 shots Krupnik honey vodka, half shot Chambord, juice of lemon and lime over crushed ice. Or a Broadoak Premium Perry.
When I’m off duty you’ll normally find me… Odd (obviously), Common (always), Fringe (love a beer garden), Port Street Beer House (quality cider on tap).
The best thing about being a bartender is… drinks, people, DJs (Lee Majors, Matt Ward, Paul Omas) I get paid to enjoy myself.
Not many people know this but... I live with Joe Fitzpatrick.
Come and see me on… weekends, evenings, anytime during the week, on demand, as required.
Follow me on Twitter at… I don’t use Twitter… Is it good?
