Beneath the streets of the Northern Quarter, an exciting new venue is taking shape.
Guilty By Association is the latest addition to the Manchester hybrid bar scene - effortlessly evolving from a cool drinking hang out by day, to an irresistible party night spot. Fifteen unique cocktails will take centre stage for their epic opening night, all brilliantly designed and skilfully served by the passionate team that brought you Liquorice Bar.
Opening towards the end of May (builders permitting) GBA will offer an alternative experience from the mainstream, handing the reigns over to their resident DJs who are set to get the crowds jumping ‘til the small hours. The ‘mi casa es su casa’ vibe is a refreshing approach to customer service; staff will mix and mingle with the movers and shakers of the town, whilst conjuring up exquisite cocktails enticing you to stay for another!
Sweetening the deal for this already highly anticipated speakeasy, the stars of the show take the form of mind blowing garnishes. Bottles of ginger beer float lazily in the Mexican mules, retro sweets sit on top of lemon slices, racing to the bottom of your glass, and the phenomenal garnish guaranteed to get you hash-tagging and posting to instagram is a flourish of candy floss blossoming from the edge of your glass. Miniature freezers offer easy access to delicious frozen marshmallows dipped in chocolate which will accompany the sumptuous vanilla milkshake cocktail.
Also gracing the menu will be; a watermelon sling, green tea and lychee martini (sadly not a substitute for green tea), raspberry and passion fruit martini, the sensational jam daiquiri, a refreshing rose water and cucumber cooler and a Kentucky ice tea “to die for”. For such ingenuity, these cocktails are set to be modestly priced around the £6.50 mark, with premium brand based classics coming in at a bit more. A range of bottles and beers on tap will also be close at hand, expecting to be priced at just under £4. Once you’ve got a drink in hand you can mooch on over to one of the booths or the snug room. Proudly standing out as an easy going night spot, there will be no guest list, no entry fee and no pretentious table selling. As a rule of thumb GBA will operate on a first come first serve basis, catering to the like-minded crowds who love a great atmosphere, good fun and delectable drinks.
The final question on everyone’s lips, what inspired the name? Rumours circulate until they become legend, but whilst the origin isn’t clear, we can expect Guilty By Association to get tongues wagging with all the gossip from weekends to come. If you were there, you were part of it: and that’s exactly what it stands for.
