Whisky is normally the stuff of old tumbler swilling gents sitting in moody leather lounges. Well, this is the stereotype no longer! The ultimate masculine combination has been born - David Beckham and Whisky. Spinningfields is playing host this Winter to that cheeky chappy's new Whisky brand, Haig Club, launched in partnership with Simon Fuller and drinks brand Diageo.
Taking up a 10 week residence next to the ice rink, the Haig Club pop-up lodge will be taking over the Long Bar on Spinningfields lawns. The Haig family brand is hailed as Scotland's oldest grain Whisky empire and a bi-product of the highlands longest standing distillery, taking the spirits roots all the way back to the 17th Century. Of course, slap a bit of Beck's face on it and it's immediately a modern day sensation.
Supposedly ultra-smooth, rich and stylish (the Whisky folks, not just Beckham), the Haig Club pop-up is themed like a highlands lodge retreat filled with dark, varnished woods, walls adorned with deer antlers and furnishings doused in tan leather. Most importantly though, there is a dashing wall hanging of our dearest David to greet you on your way in. Cheers to you David.
There'll be Whisky tasting evenings, talks on the fiery stuff and some curiously named 'grooming' nights (ay-up...). Details are yet to be released regarding the latter (clearly). Haig Club opened on the 31st October and will run throughout the festive period for 10 weeks.
