Long Bar, The Lawns, Hardman Square, Spinningfields
Last week was The Lawns launch party; a brilliantly British affair (with brilliantly British weather) - and although the lawn wasn’t strewn with deck chairs full of the fashionable Spinningfields fraternity, they still turned out with overcoats and brollies in tow to try out the newest pop up bar sensation in Spinningfields. I took it upon myself to ignore the weather, get in the spirit of summer and head down to Long Bar - where it was Long Bar Ice teas all round upon arrival. The guests gathered inside by the bar to avoid the wet misery outside, although strangely enough after sampling the long bar iced tea, a glass of Pimms and a variety of ciders and premium lagers, the bad weather was a distant memory as a brass band played out funk chart hits across the lawn to the gathering punters. A top summer evening in typical Manchester fashion, giving an inclination that come rain or shine Long Bar knows how to keep the people of Manchester happy.
The Venue
The bar set in the heart of Spinningfields is the new summer hangout for Manchester's city dwellers. Deck chairs are strewn across the lawn and picnic blankets covered with sun clad ( if they’re lucky) city revellers. The bar is lined with stools for those that like to perch and look the part, and the whole place has a refreshingly relaxed yet refined atmosphere.
The Drinks
The drinks selections are simple and yet sophisticated, and with hot sandwiches and deli boards available to order, this is the perfect bar for after work drinkers to ditch the spreadsheets and emails , soak up the sun and sink some cocktails, with good grub to accompany it. Long Bar Serves an eclectic mix of summer tipples from ciders to the delightfully British Pimms and lemonade. The brilliance of Long Bar is its effortless ability to accentuate the little bit of summer England gets, which is more important here in Manchester than most.
The Clientele
After work drinkers, hoards of shoppers and on Friday and Saturday everything in between. If you’re in the city, and the sun is out, Long Bar is the place to be heading. With the tennis on in the background, negotiating a jug of Pimms with the sun lightly massaging your neck, you'd never think you were in Manchester.
Summary
Long Bar has the ability to bring out the sun even when it’s cloudy, which is why it should be a massive hit in Spinningfields this summer. A classy yet inclusive place to come and drink all the summer favourites, relax with friends or just catch the best of the summer sun; a top Manchester summer hangout.
