This retro bar is serving up nostalgia-inducing interiors and polaroid-perfect cocktails in Ancoats...That's if you can find it.
Taking over from a former chippy, Sammy’s is inconspicuously nestled amongst Swan Street's neighbouring takeaways and kebab vendors. Only a neon open sign and stopgap cocktails notice in the window give any clue of its existence. However, once inside, the bar is anything but lowkey. 70s-inspired wood panelling and yellow patterned wallpaper clad the walls while Happy Meal-hued furniture and vintage decor are dotted around the room. Think Austin Powers meets Wes Anderson.
Thirsty? Take your pick from a cocktail menu of polaroid pictures, displaying a selection of sips such as lychee martinis, ginger mai tais and pineapple spritzes. Attention to detail is key at this bar, with everything from the old-school Champagne coupes down to the dated dirty mags that fill the magazine racks.
Whilst Sammy’s is currently a drinks-only venue, there are plans to open up a deli in the coming months. But for now, this hidden den is well worth paying a visit for an immersive evening of 70s-themed boozing. Groovy baby.
Sammy's is open seven days a week and located at 26 Swan Street, Manchester, M4 5JQ.
