Is it possible to eat delicious restaurant food, help a good cause and not break the bank? The Real Junk Food Manchester are giving you the option to reach that glorious trifecta by launching the first ever ‘pay as you feel’ café.
The company, whose kitchen is headed by former Fat Duck chef Mary-Ellen McTague, are aiming to raise £20,000 to run the café for six-months near the city centre while they plan for more permanent accommodation. The venue uses fresh ingredients that are chucked out by supermarkets, hoping to cut down on the mammoth 15 million tonnes of food that is wasted in the UK. They then serve up delicious dishes from these scavenged ingredients and ask people to pay what they can for the meal. The concept was designed to create an ethical solution to the rise of food bank use, meaning less well off people can afford healthy, tasty food. The money from 'pay as you feel' goes towards paying the staff.
If you’re looking for an eco-and-socially friendly way to eat well, for less, this might just be the place for you.
The Real Junk Food Manchester aims to raise £20,000 before 13th January 2017 and will be based just outside Manchester City Centre.
