Come one, come all and step right up to the greatest show on earth as we bow down to the Tiki gods of Manchester and their latest creation. Tiki masters, Lydon Higginson of The Liars Club, and Bart Murphy of Hula Tiki Lounge are set to take you on a journey through the unknown this October, with their very own UK Tiki Fest 2013.
This week long extravaganza of all things Tiki will culminate in a three day Rum Fest at Manchester's New Century Hall. Created especially for the Tiki Fest, 'Rum Street' will see New Century Hall transformed into a rum lover's paradise from 3pm til 7pm on Friday 18 October and 12pm til 7pm on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October, complete with Tiki carvings and sand sculptures. It will be the ultimate opportunity for the people of Manchester to learn about the world’s best rums from some of their experts and the city’s best bartenders.
By night, the venue will come alive with tiki carvings, sculptures, reggae music, live bands, burlesque performers, DJs, caribbean food and of course plenty of rum cocktails and punches.
For all those who drink the drinks but also walk the walk and talk the talk; there is their infamous Miss Tiki UK and Mr Tiki UK competition - with winners chosen for their ability to embody the spirit of Tiki in looks, banter and skills. The prize will be a Tiki hamper (with a lot of rum), a professional photo shoot and (of course) the adoration of the Tiki world.
There will be a small number of wristbands available as an early bird offer for £8 and remaining wristbands will cost £12 and entitle the holders to the same same privileges. Each wristband will allow the holder entrance to the party on your chosen day; Friday, Saturday or Sunday, as well as 4 rum tasting vouchers. There will also be the opportunity to purchase more throughout the weekend.
Those wanting to go to UK Tiki Fest will be able to buy a wristband from any of the participating venues to gain them access to the week’s special events. Participating bars will be serving a UK Tiki Fest cocktail to wristband holders for just £5 from Monday to Thursday.
Lyndon Higginson of The Liars Club said: “This is year one for the Uk Tiki Fest and we hope it will be the first of many, we want something to rival Tiki Oasis in San Diego. Our aim is to bring a Polynesian slice of Tiki mayhem to all the greatest bars of Manchester and further afield and drink rum! Let’s get our Tiki on Manchester!”
