Description
The Peveril Of The Peak is a Manchester pub that time forgot, a Victorian curiosity tucked behind the more modern Bridgewater Hall. It’s a genuine Manchester institution that gets a real mix of students, locals and professionals of all ages - it has a reputation as an old man pub, although there is a younger bias on Friday and Saturday nights. The Grade II-listed building dates back to the 1820s and retains its iconic triangular shape clad with green tiles on all sides (which were added in the 1920s) - and, having been run by the same family for over four decades, it’s fabulously friendly and totally unique!
The ‘Pev’, which was named after an ultra-speedy Manchester to London stagecoach of the same name, has appeared in Coronation Street and The X Factor - and even featured in three episodes of Cracker. The interior is a very traditional three-room affair offering a space for games (including pool), a lounge area with darts and table football, and an area for the serious business of drinking. Speaking of which, the ale is well kept, and usually includes a combination of Marston's Pedigree, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Bombardier. House spirits are good value, the jukebox has a great selection and the occasional folk nights are well worth seeking out.
