Madre

Madre is a Mexican restaurant and bar located on Chorlton Street, serving authentic cuisine in a contemporary, design-led setting. The eatery was born in 2019 and assembled by the same team behind Belzan in Liverpool and London's Breddos, inspired by their travels to Mexico City, Guadalajara and Oaxaca. As a result, the pretty, city centre spot aims to give diners a culinary experience akin to theirs. 

Warm, pastel pinks paired with lime green tables line the space, alongside shiny turquoise-tiled high tables and gold and orange lights, while potted plants and cacti make sporadic appearances. Swirly, clay plates are part of the meticulously laid dining tables and guests can watch their plates come to life in a hot, open kitchen. 

Food-wise, prepare to tuck into twice-cooked chicken wings tossed in a sweet and spicy arbol sauce, crispy Baja fish or Tijuana-style carne asada tacos, and rare breed pork chops with white mole, cascabel chilli oil and spring onions. Wash all of this down with bespoke cocktails made using agave spirits, such as a Mezcalita, a Loco Chapo featuring sloe berry-infused Mezcal Siete Misterios, apricot and epazote, and an acid mango Death Proof.
