Description
Formerly Umezushi, Chish & Fips turns the traditional chippy on its head with its unique Asian-inspired offering.
Replacing beer batter for a far lighter tempura alternative, the menu here is made up of traditional cod, haddock and coley options as well as push-the-boat-out scallops and veggie-friendly shiitake mushrooms and halloumi.
Their popular £10 fish boxes include a fish main, chips and a ‘sprinkle’ (think shichimi chilli mix or wasabi), finished with a homemade sauce. In terms of drinks, you can expect a range of Asian beers and thirst-quenching ciders - the perfect partners for this salty spread.
Mainly focusing on those keen to grab and go, the seating here is limited, although a high-tech tablet ordering system ensures that rumbling stomachs queued down the street will be kept to a bare minimum. Head here on a Friday night at 7pm though? This food is worth the wait.
