Meat & Shake - Restaurant Bar Review

Meat & Shake is one of south London's leading contenders for an evening bursting with flavour. Situated within a stones throw of Tooting Bec station, this one is renowned for its top-drawer meaty burger and creamy milkshake combinations.

The Venue:

Although this place can be considered to be off the beaten track to zone 1 and 2 habitants, it’s well worth a visit for a bite of their mouth watering dishes. The venue, although small, is cosy and personal, with just the right amount of tables for intimate gatherings. Meat & Shake has a classy diner feel minus the tacky vibes that you can expect in your generic diner. Red leather seats and exposed brick work bring an immediate comfort to customers, and a large lighted Meat & Shake sign beams as brightly as this hidden gem's food and staff.

Top up the Oyster and head over for a mighty mix of meat and milkshakes.

Atmosphere and Clientele:

Having arrived on a Wednesday evening, Meat & Shake was quiet to begin with but as the minutes rolled by, a smattering of smaller groups and loved up couples began trickling in to sample the delights the talented chefs had to offer. Considering the hearty menu, I can imagine that Meat & Shake would be the perfect contender for families with kids as well as friends and couples, making it an all rounder. I can also imagine it to be a hot spot on Saturday and Sundays for those unfortunates looking for a remedy for their hangover. With the constant hum of chit-chat floating in the air and laughter bouncing off the red walls, the atmosphere was uplifting and warm, making it the ideal evening for a catch up and bite to eat.

A varied meaty menu attracts a diverse bunch of friends, families and couples.

Food and Drink:

The food at Meat & Shake most certainly lived up to its high expectations and delivered more than what I was hoping for. To start we opted for onion rings and succulent chicken wings which arrived at the table promptly, along with a surprise of dirty fries which is comprised of chilli con carne, cheese, jalapenos and mustard. It'd been over 10 years since I'd tackled a helping of chilli, yet I soon discovered a fondness for the dish that nearly had me licking the plate clean before handing it back to the attentive staff. Now a meat convert, my companion and I moved onto the star of the evening; our chipotle chicken burgers. Seasoned and cooked to perfection, our burgers were exactly what the doctor ordered. The sautéed onions and red peppers hit the spot of every burger lovers dreams. The glue to the meal in my opinion were the milkshakes, having a soft spot for caramel the obvious choice was the salted caramel shake, it comes copiously creamy, without ever becoming too heavy.

Loosen that belt and get down to business with a mountainous burger.

Summary:

Meat & Shake is a venue that has the ability to leave people satisfied walking out the door, to heal the hungover and convert meat haters into meat lovers.
