Chic Interiors & Gorgeous Margaritas: Our Review Of Cellar At Kindred In Hammersmith

Getting off the Piccadilly line at Hammersmith station can quickly transpire into a chaotic experience. Constructed like a rabbit warren, the station has multiple exits and presents itself as a shopping centre, so you might be wondering whether you’ve actually stumbled into a wannabe Westfield.

Nevertheless, once you escape the station you’ll be met with a plethora of high street cafes and bars which are all perfect places to pop in for a tipple and a bite to eat. One (slightly tucked away) place in particular is Cellar at Kindred – and it’s a hidden gem you don’t want to miss.

Green-Walled Restaurant With Chic Seating And Open Windows Leading To An Outdoor Dining Area.

This sleek restaurant and bar sits directly outside of Hammersmith station.

DesignMyNight Review Of Cellar At Kindred

I somehow managed to choose the right exit at Hammersmith Station (please don’t quote me on which one it is) and was met with a gorgeous red-bricked building. This was Kindred, a gorgeous co-working and event space that can be hired out for all different occasions. Think live events such as community dinners, writers' hours and an election night special to watch all the action unfold.

Below Kindred, located on the ground floor was Cellar at Kindred, hiding away from the hustle and bustle of Hammersmith station. I loved the open plan feel of this restaurant – the retracting windows leading out to their outdoor dining area were a lovely touch, and meant we didn't get too hot on this sweltering London evening.

I brought my boyfriend along with me as a birthday treat, and after studying the menu on the tube we were more than ready to start ordering. I started off strong with an Estes Margarita (£14) which was a sangria-like spin of the classic cocktail we all know and love. The subtle hint of pink grapefruit and lemon gave it perfect bitter undertones and also made for a lovely post-tube refresher. My boyfriend decided to go for a pint of the Two Tribes Campfire Hazy IPA (£7.20), a tropical beer with aromas of passionfruit and mango.

An Udon Noodle Dish With Avodcado And Three Cocktails Sitting On The Bar.

Who doesn't look at a bowl of udon noodles with a delicious cocktail to wash it all down?

Controversially, we decided to go straight to our main course. The starters looked stunning, we especially loved the look of the muhammara and flatbread, but decided that getting a side would be a better plan. I opted for one of the power bowls with udon noodles and grilled chicken thighs (£13). It was a delicious blend of thinly sliced avocado and carrots, bean sprouts and a tasty spicy sesame dressing to give it a bit of a kick. The chicken was tender and juicy, complementing the fresh vegetables perfectly.

My dining partner decided to try out a margherita pizzette (£9.50), which directly translates to a ‘small pizza’. I stole a slice and tried it for myself – it was piping hot, oozing with a cheese and tomato base giving it that much-loved creaminess of a classic margarita. We also ordered a side of the crispy mac and cheese bites (£9) which were absolutely insane. The outer crunch contrasted the gooey, creamy middle that quite literally melted in my mouth.

It turns out not getting a starter was a smart move because it meant I had a smidgen of room left for one of their delicious desserts. As soon as I saw tiramisu (£10) on the menu, I was sold. The base was walnut cake, stacked with mascarpone cream and a sprinkle of cocoa to pull it all together. I was a bit hesitant about the inclusion of walnuts at first, but it was a luscious addition that I will definitely welcome again.

Cellar At Kindred: Overall

This lovely West London hotspot is a great place to visit if you're looking for a hearty lunch or just a cheeky margarita (or two). The udon noodles were the perfect light evening dish and i'll be dreaming about those mac and cheese bites for weeks. I would recommend visiting later in the evening to experience that buzzy atmosphere while sipping on some of the incredible cocktails they have on offer. As someone residing in West London, I'd definitely come to this restaurant again, especially as it's a couple of steps from Hammersmith station (incredible bonus).
