East Village Sydney

One of the most romantic bars in Sydney for couples has to be this gorgeous haunt. Spread over multiple floors and offering a rooftop terrace with jaw-dropping views of the city, East Village Sydney is a multi-faceted venue with a public bar sporting communal tables and cool, stone walls, an athletic club and of course, the aforementioned sky-high beaut which is where you're going to want to be taking your other half for date night. Relax under mustard yellow and white pinstripe parasols as you get your lips around signature sips like the Six Summers, made with gin and Peychauds bitters, or the mezcal-based High Hopes, alongside charcuterie boards or poke bowls.

Shady Pines Saloon

For a taste of the Wild West in Darlinghurst, visit Shady Pines Saloon. It's a salvaged antique bar doubling up as an all-American time capsule, decorated with old-school taxidermy, pinup posters and fairy lights that can all be discovered behind a secret door. Enjoy a rock 'n' roll soundtrack here, as well as freshly-poured pints and whiskey concoctions in a cosy corner. On the menu? $25 tipples such as Lottie Deno, served spritzed and made with Lillet blanc and watermelon, Belle Star featuring slated honey and citrus, and the whiskey and mezcal-based Calamity Jane.

The Lobo

Looking for some romantic bars in Sydney CBD? The Lobo has got you covered with its gorgeous emerald green walls paired with weathered shutters and rich, chocolatey brown leather furnishings. Named after the famous Cuban sugar baron, Julio Lobo, the underground haunt focuses on rum-based drinks, with special editions on the menu like Jungle Bird, made with Soletera white rum and Campari, and Palmetto, featuring sweet vermouth and orange bitters. Other bespoke concoctions include a White Negroni Daquiri or a Fanclub, containing clarified chocolate orange.

Saga Bar

As you walk through the tomb-style entrance and enter a tropical oasis donning waterfalls and plants, it's not hard to see why Saga Bar is one of the most exciting date spots in the city. Inspired by Indiana Jones and taking guests on a global journey via food and drinks, it invites guests to 'take a trip to paradise' and explore bespoke concoctions created by talented mixologists. Some of these delights include a smoked old fashioned, Jewel of Mexico, containing spiced chocolate bitters, and Black Pearl, made with 78 Degrees gin, shaken with rose syrup.

Smoke

Out of all the romantic rooftop bars Sydney has on offer, Smoke has to be up there with the prettiest. Located in Barangaroo House and on eye level with some of the city's twinkliest skyscrapers, the bar brings low lighting and slinky furnishings reminiscent of the drinking scene in LA and New York. You're bound to score a sophisticated sip here from an innovative menu using local and fresh ingredients. Try Caught In The Rain, made using makrut lime coconut and pandan foam, or Vertigo, featuring coca bitters for something a little richer.
