From the buzz of London to the greenery in Birmingham and bars in Manchester, the UK is a beautiful place to be, and would you look at that? It seems like you agree. We wanted to know what you really think of where you live in our latest DesignMyNight City Survey and we’re breaking down all the nice things you said about the UK.
You Love All The Different Towns
Kent: “Just moved to Kent and love the small village feel (having come from a small town in Australia myself), but also love how close it still is to London where I've called home for the last 5 years. Best of both worlds.”
Surrey: I love that I am in the country with amazing views but still have a very easy commute to London, where I love the food and nightlife!
Anglesey: “The nearest city to me is the University City of Bangor. I love it’s small city charm, and it also has the longest high street in the UK!”
Tunbridge Wells: “We are next to Ashdown Forrest - some great pub gardens too.”
Chelmsford: “Most of my friends live in Chelmsford and the hospital I work in is within walking distance. Love the outdoor events that are held in the local park - from tribute bands, food festivals to Oktoberfest. The train to London only takes 25 mins so it’s super easy for me.”
The Diversity Is Where It’s At
London: “Discovering hidden places and all its diversity in terms of culture and gastronomy.”
Birmingham: “The green spaces, the people, the diversity and the great food and music scenes!”
Reading: “The diversity of people and activities is fantastic. I love going into town and finding new places to eat and socialise in the day and at night.”
Bristol: “I love the night life and the diversity of people.”
Brighton: “I live in Hastings, which is 50 miles from Brighton and I love how the town is growing in diversity and all the lovely festivals and traditions we still celebrate. It’s the loveliest town.”
The Food And Drinks Are Pretty Good
London: "Dream evening would start off at Be At One for some happy hour cocktails. We would then go out for dinner; most likely a nice Japanese restaurant (one of my favourites is Robata in Soho). If we still had room for dessert. we would head to Chin Chin Labs Soho for some seriously good ice cream. To get the party started we would go to The London Cocktail Club, and dance the night away; as it’s always so lively in there."
Manchester: “It’s quite a large town that has got a bit of everything. Lots of shopping, nice restaurants and a mix of nice bars and traditional pubs.”
Cardiff: “I love the diversity and different types of cocktails and nightlife that you see in Cardiff. Cardiff is so filled with joy and happiness and everyone you will meet (well most) will be a friendly face.”
Essex: “It's small enough to have everything in one place but big enough to have a selection of nights and days out. It's also in the perfect proximity to London to go for a day out.”
London: "I recommend Shoreditch because they have lots of cool restaurants and bars that include activities like Bounce and Junkyard Golf."
Nottingham: “The architecture and we have so much to do for a small city there’s always something to be getting up to. New unique bars, restaurants, walks or nature.”
Our Isle Is Quite The Beaut
Reading: “Its aesthetic both in the day and the nightlife are gorgeous.”
Anglesey: “Peaceful and beautiful scenery.”
Birmingham: “I love that Birmingham is affectionately known as one of the UK's greenest cities with over 8,000 acres and 600 parks and open spaces. It has amazing unique people that are welcoming to everyone!”
Cambridge: “Culture, historic vibe, and beautiful spaces within the city.”
Dundee: "City Quay for water sports, cafes and beautiful walks or up Perth road for bars and beer gardens and music."
Edinburgh: “Beautiful buildings and lots of green outdoor spaces to chill on sunny days.”
And Best Of All? The People, Of Course
Manchester: “The vibe in Manchester is just unbeatable, I go to uni in a different city and every time I come back to Manchester, the feeling is just different. Everyone is so happy and friendly - it’s like sunshine.”
London: "The bubbling, joyful mix of people and the cultural life - there's always something new, exciting and beautiful to see and do!"
Glasgow: “Glasgow and the people are belters. Everyone is friendly and the city feels like home, no matter where you are coming from."
York: “I love how friendly everyone is. I am from the south originally and have been amazed by how many strangers stop to say hello.”
