When And Where Was The Michelin Guide Ceremony 2025?

On Monday the 10th of February 2025, The Michelin Guide Ceremony was held at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum in Glasgow. Introduced by the roar of bagpipes, it celebrated its 125th birthday in true Michelin style by crowning one new three-star, three two-star, and 22 one-star restaurants. 36 brand new Bib Gourmands were also announced, alongside five green stars; overall, 1,147 restaurants were included in the selection, bringing the total of starred restaurants in Great Britain and Ireland to 220, with 85 in London.

The New Three Michelin Star Restaurant

It's hard to get three stars; indicative of gastronomic excellence and a craft that takes years to achieve, the award is not handed out lightly - but Moor Hall in Lancashire has reached those levels. Led by chef Mark Birchall, the restaurant sources the majority of its ingredients from its kitchen garden to construct gorgeous, delicate plates of food like turbot cooked in brown butter and Mylor prawns. The achievement now brings the number of restaurants in the UK and Ireland with three stars to 10.

New Two Michelin Star Restaurants

This year, a trio of restaurants were crowned two Michelin stars, two of which can be found in London. In Soho, Angelo Sato's Humble Chicken made the jump from one to two stars only 12 months after his first star - which is no small feat. He has consistently produced incredibly creative snacks and plates as part of his set menu.

Also making the two-star cut is a familiar name: The Ritz. Chef John Williams MBE and his team have triumphed with their originality and modernity. The final two-star bearer for 2025 is neighbourhood restaurant hide and fox, nestled near the Kent coast and the brainchild of duo Allister Barsby and Alice Bussi. Here you can find scrumptious produce cooked with care, and the likes of Brixham crab with jelly and pickled vegetables.

New One Michelin Star Restaurants

Edinburgh welcomed two new Michelin-starred restaurants, with produce-led LYLA from Stuart Ralston and AVERY by chef Rodney Wages, who also held a star in San Francisco before moving to the Scottish capital. In the Republic of Ireland, The Morrison Room near Maynooth wowed with owner Adam Nevin's inventive cooking, and Richard Picard-Edwards' team at Ballyfin inside the Ballyfin Demesne hotel (which holds three Michelin keys) impressed too. In County Galway, thanks to using wood-fired techniques, Danny Africano's LIGИUM also made the jump to a star.

In Cardiff, Gorse by Tom Waters earned the city its first-ever Michelin star, and further across the border in Bristol, Jan Ostle's Wilsons triumphed too, with help from produce grown by his wife Mary Wilson. And, after great success with The Butchers Arms in Eldersfield where they earned a star, James and Elizabeth Winter gained one for 33 The Homend

The first solo project of Nick Beardshaw, who earned a fantastic reputation working with Tom Kerridge, Starling has gained a star this year in its quaint location of Easher, and further across the country in Caistor St Edmund, Mark Poynton at Caistor Hall also succeeds with a one-star victory.

Tom Barnes's first solo restaurant in Manchester won a star in the Michelin Guide 2025.

As for Manchester? Skof was on everybody's lips this year as a big contender and rightly so, as Tom Barnes, of L'Enclume fame, has earned it a star thanks to his personal touch and meticulous plates. The 2024 Young Chef Award winner, Jake Jones, has also achieved a star with his sustainable restaurant Forge in Middleton Tyas.

And finally, London has had an incredible year, with OMA, on the edge of Borough Market, becoming the Michelin Guide's first Greek restaurant to be awarded a star in the UK and Ireland thanks to chef Jorge Paredes' moreish, smoky dishes. John Chantarasak's AngloThai has also come up top and so has DOSA, the Korean restaurant in the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, with Jihun Kim at the helm.

Inspired by the Greek Isles, the one-star OMA can be found above the Bib Gourmand-winning Agora.

Further across the city, more history was made, as Plates London became the first purely vegan restaurant to be awarded a Michelin star, as well as Mauro Colagreco at Raffles London at The OWO, led by chef Mauro Colagreco who's well-known for his three-star restaurant Mirazur in France. Former head chef of Angler, Gary Foulkes, also won big with Cornus which focuses on modernised classicism, and so did 64 Goodge Street where Stuart Andrew triumphs with a unique style of French cooking.

Adding to Notting Hill's ever-growing collection of Michelin-starred restaurants is Diego Ferrari and Emily Roux’s Caractère, and in Marylebone, Luke Ahearne's Lita captures the essence of wood-fired dishes perfectly. Lastly, Row on 5, a recent opening by Jason Atherton, has immediately excelled with a star to its name and a passion for luxury ingredients.
