When Rubeus Hagrid uttered the famous words "You're a wizard, Harry" in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, children across the globe hoped they would also be receiving their long-overdue Hogwarts letter. For many (and to much disappointment), this didn't happen. But what if there was another way to experience the Harry Potter magic?

Although Godric's Hollow is a work of fiction, the actual setting of the infamous village is not. De Vere House is situated in the village of Lavenham in Suffolk, a beautiful rural part of the East Anglia. We see the house for the first time in the penultimate film in the franchise, as Harry travels back for the first time since the night he got his infamous forehead scar.
The medieval cottages and wonky houses of Lavenham made for the perfect backdrop of Godric's Hollow, sending chills down viewers' spines.

You can now book a stay at De Vere House in Lavenham on the Airbnb website or app. Due to Harry Potter's understandably large fan base, this place gets booked up often, so ensure to arrange your spellbinding stay well in advance.
How Much Does It Cost To Stay In Harry Potter's Family Home?

The History Of Lavenham And The Village's Connection To Harry Potter
Boasting over 340 listed buildings, Lavenham is one of the most idyllic villages in East Anglia. With history stretching back as far as the Saxon times, it was once the 14th wealthiest town in England. It's known as one of the UK's best-kept medieval villages, making it the perfect place to explore. It was also home to the famous poet Jane Taylor, the creator of the world-famous nursery rhyme 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' (not wizard related, but a fun fact nonetheless).
Chosen for its rustic and quirky charm, Lavenham made for the perfect filming location for Godric's Hollow. As well as using De Vere House as Harry Potter's family home, other notable spots within the village were featured in the film. An unusual 14th century building known as the Crooked House, which was previously the servants quarters of Hall House, can be spotted in Godric's Hollow, as well as the other bizarre buildings situated on the street.
