The Old Butter Market

Description

Located in the heart of Canterbury, just a short walk from Mercery Lane, The Old Buttermarket has a rich an interesting history.

The name derives from the fact that it's been a local drinking den for over 500 years for those that attended the butter market that was held in the square outside. Flint pieces discovered in the cellars also imply that it could lay on top of on Roman remains.

On the menu, you’ll find a great choice of traditional British pub food dishes, as well as an impressive selection of cask ales, wines, beers, and spirits. And, once you’re suitably refreshed, you can head back out to explore Canterbury Cathedral and the countless other attractions on the doorstep.
