Description
Located in the heart of historic York, The Punch Bowl offers great food, local ales, and bucket loads of British character.
The pub takes its name from the Whig Party from the 17th Century, who enjoyed a glass of punch, while the Tories preferred their claret. Any pub displaying a punch bowl sign was therefore declaring its political allegiance. Today, it’s strictly neutral!
Inside, as well as the main bar, you’ll find a snug area that’s perfect for private parties and can accommodate around 20 people. The traditional British pub food menu offers an impressive choice of tasty dishes, and there’s a wide range of cask ales and spirits available too. And, speaking of spirits, keep your eyes peeled for the ghosts that are said the haunt the building!
Attractions in the area? You won't be hard pushed to find something unique – York Minster, the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Viking Centre are just on the doorstep.
