Cardinal

Tucked away on Eyre Place, Cardinal is a sleek restaurant run by Michelin star chef Tomás Gormley. They specialise in great quality Scottish produce, with a range of international influences and several of their dishes cooked over coal.

Expect dark, elegant interiors full of contemporary artwork and mood lighting, where you can enjoy a £110 tasting menu. From a taramasalata doughnut to the chicken waffle caviar, you can enjoy sumptuous plates washed down with an optional drinks pairing for £85.

Skua

An intimate restaurant on St Stephen Street, Skua is brought to you by Tomás Gormley and Sam Yorke, the brains behind Michelin-starred restaurant Heron. Think marble-topped tables, atmospheric candlelight and brass accents dotted around the venue, ideal for date night or dinners with a small group of friends.

They specialise in seasonal small plates here, with a menu that changes on a regular basis. Sample dishes include barbecue leeks with walnut ketchup, grilled seabass on kale and oysters in Lake Garda olive oil - which you can pair with an extensive selection of fine wines and cocktails.

Nok's Kitchen Stockbridge

Having opened in 2016 on Gloucester Street, Nok's Kitchen has taken the Stockbridge area by storm - so much so that they've opened a second venue by Edinburgh Castle since then. Thai chef-owner Nok and her talented kitchen team are all about home-style cooking, using only the freshest ingredients in their dishes.

You'll find this delicious destination inside a 17th-centrutry townhouse, which contrasts with the modern, sleek nature of the interiors. The menu showcases authentic Thai cooking, featuring the likes of vegetable pad Thai, deep-fried duck tamarind, seabass in a green curry sauce and so much more.

Wee Buddha

For some of the best lunch in Stockbridge, Edinburgh, head to Wee Buddha on Jamaica Street. This small pan-Asian restaurant has a simple, cosy interior that flaunts a number of Buddha statues, as well as comfy booth seating, rustic wooden tables and pretty hanging lights.

Their all-day menu focuses on small plates, designed to share among friends. Tuck into diverse dishes with a Scottish twist, such as haggis wontons, garlic and chilli squid or even chippy sauce bean curd.

The Scran & Scallie

A stylish gastropub and restaurant run by Michelin-starred chefs Tom Kitchin and Dominic Jack, The Scran & Scallie is an excellent choice for lunch or dinner. The Comely Bank Road haunt features exposed brick walls and sources their interior fabrics from the Isle of Bute, while much of the furniture is Scandinavian, and they're even dog-friendly too.

They encompass traditional Scottish flavours in their extensive menu, which follows the 'from nature to plate' philosophy that chef Tom Kitchin is best known for. Think Highland wagyu beef burgers, seared Orkney scallops with cauliflower or celeriac and apple soup with croutons, followed by an indulgent blueberry and lemon cheesecake.

Sabor Criollo

Located on Deanhaugh Street, Sabor Criollo is a South American restaurant that embraces Latin culture throughout its menu and atmosphere. Expect bright red decor all across the venue, as well as multiple South American flags decorating the bar.

Enjoy a number of exotic cocktails, alongside an extensive food offering. Kick off with nachos or mini cachapa, before diving into plates of shredded chicken quesadillas, grilled vegetable fajitas and chilli beef burritos.

Avery

Recently opened, Avery is brought to you by Chef Rodney Wages, behind the Michelin star California restaurant of the same name. Enter via some discreet steps on a Georgian terrace-lined street, to discover simple but striking interiors, filled with American ceramics and work from San Francisco-based artist Victor Reyes.

They offer a 12-course tasting menu for £149 per person, with each dish as beautiful as it is delicious. Sample everything from poached scallops and mussels in a chorizo broth to haggis in a rich jus, with the offering changing on a regular basis.
