97 & Social - Jesmond

If burgers and cocktails are your thing, then head to 97 & Social in Jesmond for a healthy dose of both. Nestled on the corner of Osborne Road, this vibrant bar promises cosy leather booths, great music and an outdoor terrace - topped off by a Mexican-themed menu that's full of juicy patties.

Choose from homemade beef patties, chargrilled chicken or jackfruit chilli in your brioche bun, loaded up with toppings like fajita peppers or nacho cheese. And if you visit from 4 until 7pm on weekdays, or from 12pm on Fridays, you can secure £5.50 frozen margaritas or daquiris to wash it down.

The Forth

A cool pub and live music venue on Pink Lane, The Forth is a quirky choice of burger joint decked out in bright, colourful furniture and music-related artwork. There's also an open fire for those cosy winter days, and a roof terrace when the weather's a little warmer.

They've got a huge selection of burgers and subs on their menu, ranging from crispy fried chicken breast in Buffalo hot sauce to bacon cheeseburgers or a vegan chilli cheese option. These start from just £11, and you can nab any two sides for £7.

Lola Jeans

A gorgeous bar and restaurant right on Market Street, Lola Jeans is renowned for serving some of the best burgers in Newcastle city centre. They've won Battle of the Burger six times, including five years in a row between 2015 and 2019, with winning entries including the Tennessee barbecue-themed Clancy Wiggum or the Baby Got Back, topped with maple candied bacon and sliced pastrami.

You can sample all of these on their menu, alongside a range of classics and sides such as halloumi fries or chicken tenders. You won't find much nicer surrounds to enjoy your meal in either, thanks to the plush pink velvet seating and floral displays. Topping it all off, their extensive cocktail menu promises a range of unique signature sips - we recommend the China Rose Petal.

The Holy Hobo

NYE Guestlist and 2 other offers

Part of Jesmond Three Sixty on the outskirts of the city centre, The Holy Hobo is a relaxed restaurant by day and party bar by night. Relax on their vintage leather sofas in this cosy haunt, which feels like you're dining in your very own living room. With table football, pool and karaoke to keep you entertained, it's easy to spend hours in this stylish spot.

You can nab cocktails for under a tenner here, our favourite is the amaretto and blueberry mojito. Pair this with burgers for as little as £6.95 each - we're talking low and slow-cooked beef patties topped with gravy mayo, Cajun buttermilk chicken or plant-based burgers with vegan feta.

The Head of Steam Quayside

Located right by the famous Tyne Bridge, The Head of Steam Quayside is a friendly pub that specialises in craft beer, cocktails and brilliant burgers. Expect the feel of a traditional boozer, with a variety of fun gaming options too - including shuffleboard, foosball, retro arcade machines and a pool table.

50% of their entire menu is vegan, and you can switch many of their meat dishes for plant-based alternatives as well. Tuck into chicken katsu burgers, beef patties topped with cheesy nachos or buns loaded with vegan spicy chorizo and avocado, paired with mac 'n' cheese croquettes or loaded fries.

Fat Hippo Newcastle

Established in Jesmond in 2010, Fat Hippo has fast become known for some of the best burgers in the North East and beyond. They've still got their original Jesmond location, with a second in the city centre, both featuring their signature laid-back interiors full of exposed brick walls and rustic wooden tables.

They offer vegan, gluten-free and halal options, and you can even bring your dog along, so they really do cater for everyone. From Southern-fried, plant-based chicken topped with pink onions to double beef patties layered up with cheese and bacon, their original burgers are truly delicious - especially when paired with dirty fries.

Jam Jar

Located on the buzzing Osborne Road in Jesmond, Jam Jar is a cocktail bar and burger joint that whips up some of the most exciting combinations in the city. It's a casual, welcoming dining destination that gets lively in the evenings, complete with rustic wooden tables and a heated outdoor terrace that lets you soak up the atmosphere of the area.

Be sure to head down on Mondays, when they offer two burgers and fries for just £15. You can get anything from salt and pepper chicken to beef topped with whiskey barbecue sauce between their buns, and they offer vegan or gluten-free alternatives for a number of their burgers too.
